I've always wondered that despite the silly LSx swaps, no one swapped in a motor more than 8 measly cylinders - that's right, I'm talking about a V12. But instead of looking at a Jaaaaaaaaag, Mercedes, Audi or even the iron block from Bavaria, why not try and swap in a motor from a Toyota?

Kinja'd!!!

In essence, it's similar to welding together 2 1JZ-FEs together to make a 48-valve, DOHC 5.0L V12. It still makes the mandated 280 PS but the torque has to be higher than a regular RB!

That, and think of the sound it makes! So why wasn't this done by Nissan? Even in the new GT-R? ?_?

I can think of one reason why Nissan didn't put a Toyota engine in their car.

But a V12 in general, preferably a 5.2L? Graft together two RB26s?

Seeing this makes me want to start on my dream project - a Jeep flatrod with two L134 engines bolted together to make a straight-8. It's tempting because an L134 in good condition is usually less than $500.

I would drive it if it came with the stock Supra headlights.

the 1GZ is a heavy bastard.

The NISMO RB26DETT's have substantially more peak torque than the 1GZ.

The GZ would have a much nicer curve though.

The RB made way more power than an N/A V12, and was a time-tested design that Nissan had been improving since the 60s.

As for torque, no, a 5.0l V12 would not have any more torque than a 2.6l I6 turbo. In fact, it probably would have less since the V12 may have to rev higher to reach the same power levels.

Then there's space considerations. The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a 4WD vehicle, that means it needs sufficient space for the transmission to fit for both the front and rear drivetrains. The 1GZ, designed for a RWD Limo, probably doesn't have the proper weight distribution or space to fit in the Skyline chassis without making it larger.

Someone DID put it in a Supra though (with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of custom work to get it to fit), and it had a relatively famous result:

Anyway, the REAL reason Nissan wouldn't have chosen anything other than the RB, was to fit Group A 4000cc regulations.

How heavy is a 1GZ? The RB26 was a cast iron block, meaning it weighs about the same as a Chevy Big Block, ~650 lbs.

They made the 1GZ out of an alloy material, so if I had to guess, aluminum.

I considered buying a 1gz and tranny for swap into my land cruiser (because v12 land cruiser ftw) and I asked my uncle about it who works for Toyota. He said the 1gz is affectionatly known in Toyota circles as "the handbuilt boat anchor" I'm not sure there is a lot of room for improvement, or at least not cheaply. btw, i totally don't care, im still thinking about it. it would weight less than my I6, develop more torque at lower rpms, more hp and be very durable since its twin banked (two complete intakes/engine computers) so you can limp home in I6 mode if one bank fails completely.

the 1GZ was a torque machine, built primarily for the luxobarge/limo market its primary design goals were super low end torque and smoothness. its got 355 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm and 300 at 1200 rpm. its not a ton, but with a little boost....

The RB26 is only about 50lbs heavier than a 2JZ, so it's probably the same as the 1GZ then.
